Business Licensing

How to license your business in Marysville

The City of Marysville and State Department of Licensing formed a new partnership in February 2007 that streamlines the way current and future business owners can obtain business licenses. DOL's Master License Service (MLS) system enables business owners to complete online the Master Business License Form and City of Marysville Business License Addendum, all on a single site. You can complete your Master Business License for the State and the City addendum for Marysville online, or download the paperwork and mail it to the City of Marysville, 601 Delta Ave. Checks for the Master Business License and Marysville Business License Addendum MUST be made payable to the "Washington State Treasurer."

When you apply for a business permit in Marysville, your new license will be issued or denied within 20 working days upon receipt of the completed application. Applications are reviewed through the Community Development Department, Fire District and Police Department for approval if your business location is inside the city limits. The application goes to the Police for approval if the business location is outside the city limits.

Your business may be exempt from having to have a City of Marysville business license; see Marysville Municipal Code 5.02.030 Exempt businesses.

If your physical location is outside city limits of Marysville but you come inside the city limits to perform work or solicit your business then you are required to have a license.

Home Occupation Licenses

You are considered a home occupation if you do not have a commercial store or office and you are doing any part of your business activities from your residence, and the residence is inside the city limits of Marysville. Even if you do not sell a product from your home or do not have any customers come to your home, you are still considered a home occupation n business. Contacting customers by phone or conducting bookkeeping work from the home is also considered a home occupation business. Examples would be contractors, subcontractors, plumbers and electricians who go to the job site to perform work, but who's office is at home. An in-home day care is the only occupation that is exempt from having to complete a home occupation application form.

Checks for a Home Occupation License MUST be made payable to the "City of Marysville."

To download the Home Occupation Application Form, click "Documents Now"  for the Documents Now web page.

If you do not have access to a computer to file State and City licensing forms, customers are welcome to drop by the Public Works/Community Development Building at 80 Columbia Ave. and use a web-accessible terminal available for use at the front counter. We will be happy to assist you.
