About the Award The City of Marysville Leader in Diversity Award recognizes a community member, business or organization that displays long standing, continuing and exceptional leadership in fostering diversity in the community and society. This rare and infrequently granted Award is also intended to highlight the contributions of those who advance the cause of inclusivity in ways that foster positive changes to achieve equality of opportunities for all residents, while creating a harmonious environment.
Mayor Jon Nehring established the award in 2012 in partnership with the Diversity Advisory Committee. The first award was presented to Committee Member Marvetta Toler for her active involvement in diversity issues at the local and regional level, and for working with the Mayor to develop the Diversity Advisory Committee.
Eligibility and Criteria The recipient shall have made significant contributions to the advancement of diversity within the City of Marysville. For purposes of this award, “diversity” shall be construed broadly but not limited to include race, gender, disability, sexual orientation or any other category of historically disadvantaged individuals.
Consideration will be given to:
Efforts to raise awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusiveness to the community;
Development of or participation in any innovative or meaningful initiatives or programs related to improving diversity within the community;
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, and/or;
Recognition of exceptional support in advancing a particular diverse group’s interests within the community.
