James earns Municipal Leadership certificate

Mark James 2018Final

Marysville City Councilmember Mark James recently received a Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC).

This program recognizes city and town officials who complete more than 30 training credits in four core areas:

  • Roles, responsibilities and legal requirements
  • Public sector resource management
  • Community planning and development
  • Effective local leadership

"I wholeheartedly endorse and embrace the training offered by AWC as I work to better serve my community," James said. "The Core Certificate of Municipal Leadership has given me some of the core tools needed to do the job of Councilmember. Thank you to the citizens of Marysville for electing me and trusting me to be the best civic leader I can be. I look forward to the next learning challenge with AWC to attain the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership."

James was elected in November 2017 to serve on the Marysville City Council beginning Jan. 1, 2018. He and his wife, Renae, are full-time local business owners and active community volunteers. He is the current president of Marysville Sunrise Rotary.
