Update (May 21, 2020): Due to delay in progress outside of the city’s and the contractor’s control, this road closure has been extended through Sunday, May 31. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The two-block section of State Avenue roadway north of 100th Street NE, spanning the Quil Ceda Creek crossing, will be closed for construction from 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 24. Businesses and residential access will remain open during the closure.
Detour signage will be in place throughout the intersection closure. Drivers should plan for local trips to take an additional 10-15 minutes using detour routes that will direct traffic off of State Avenue to 51st Avenue NE via Shoultes and 136th Streets. Reader boards are in place to provide advance notice.
A dedicated pedestrian corridor on the east side of the roadway will be in place throughout the work zone. It will be lit to provide an added measure of safety for those traveling through the work zone at night and will be cordoned off to keep people a safe distance from the work and equipment.
The city’s contractor for this project is Strider Construction.
When this phase is complete next year, the State Avenue roadway between 100th Street NE and 104th Place NE will have five lanes instead of three along with curb, gutter and sidewalk and street lighting to improve traffic and pedestrian safety. Construction of the last remaining corridor from 104th Pl NE to 116th St NE is not yet funded.
