[ARCHIVED] Hit and Run turns Fatal

Fatal Hit and Run Accident NB on-ramp to I-5 at 4th St.

Marysville – 07.06.17 9:00 am

Marysville investigators learned late this morning that the 52 year old male victim of a hit and run accident at 4th St and the on-ramp to north bound I-5 had succumb to his injuries and has passed away.

At about 4:30 am this morning Marysville Police began to get calls about a man down in the roadway at 4th St and the on-ramp to North Bound I-5. When officers arrived, they found a 52-year-old Marysville man lying in the roadway with life threatening injuries.

It was apparent to officers that the male was most likely struck by a vehicle while in the cross walk of the northbound on-ramp.

Marysville Fire and medic personnel transported the victim to the Providence Regional Medical Center, Colby Campus Emergency Room.

The northbound on-ramp to I-5 was shut down from 04:30 am to about 07:00 am. Investigators on scene reported that the 2½ hours that the on-ramp was closed there was heavy commuter traffic in and around the intersection.   Marysville CIU (Collision Investigation Unit) and Detectives were called out to investigate the fatal hit and run accident. At this time, there is no suspect vehicle information to be released, and investigators are seeking the public’s help.

We are asking for the public’s help, anyone in the area of 4th St and I-5 between the hours of 4:15 am and 4:30 am who may have seen something, as well as anyone who may know anything about the suspect vehicle and or driver, please contact Marysville Investigators at 360.363.8350.

“Often times these tragic accidents are just that, accidents. They are compounded when the driver panics and begins to make very poor decisions,” said Commander Mark Thomas, adding, “I would encourage the driver of the vehicle to turn themselves in sooner than later.”
