The city attorney provides legal advice to the mayor, City Council, city boards, commissions and departments. This includes advising the city regarding new federal and state legislation. Additionally, the city attorney prepares and/or reviews all ordinances, resolutions and agreements.

Representation
The city attorney represents the city in general litigation matters, including defending the city against claims not covered by the city's liability insurance.

This office also prosecutes misdemeanor crimes, traffic infractions and code violations on behalf of the city.

The attorneys in the City Attorney's Office represent the City of Marysville and therefore cannot give legal advice to residents or other individuals or entities. Individuals needing legal assistance must retain private counsel.
