*Thank you for your feedback. We have received the neighborhood’s responses to the latest survey. We have processed the results, including feedback received from numerous comments, to adjust our proposed plan. We will present this plan at an open house that will take place at the Marysville Library on March 16th, from 3-6pm. The open house will be over the course of several hours and neighbors are encouraged to visit when they are available. Additional information will be delivered to addresses and maintained online.

The City of Marysville has been informed by multiple citizens of traffic safety concerns within the neighborhood.  Based upon these concerns, the City Traffic Safety Committee (now NTS program) has evaluated each concern including performance of traffic counts upon several neighborhood streets.  The traffic counts are summarized below:

Evaluation Background

The 85% speed is the commonly accepted engineering value indicating the speed at which 85% of drivers fall under and is found to be the speed at which the majority of drivers feel is a safe speed given the roadway conditions and surrounding environment. The 85% speed is also the value typically used to set speed limits and evaluate compliance with speed limits.

Residential roadways with a consistent speeding problem which may be effectively altered with traffic calming device installation typically have greater than 3% of drivers traveling at greater than 10 mph over the speed limit.

Based upon the cumulative results of the neighborhood traffic data, the Public Works Departments through the NTS program has determined that traffic calming device installation is necessary upon 70th St NE from 55th Ave to 64th Ave NE, as well as 55th Ave NE from Grove St to 70th St NE, as well as 64th Ave NE from 70th St NE to Grove St.

Survey Background

A survey was performed in June 2024 in order to solicit approval from all properties within 600' of a proposed traffic calming device or whose sole access(es) would be impacted by traffic calming device installation. To move forward with the installation, greater than 60% of respondents were required to tally "yes" for the proposal. This survey resulted in greater than 60% approval for the proposed locations.

Below is a map of the parcels balloted in June 2024.

Balloted Parcels Map - June 2024

This NTS project proposal included the installation of six (6) speed tables, one (1) raised crosswalks, and three (3) traffic circles at the following approximate locations:

  • 7017 55th Ave NE (speed table)
  • 5519 70th St NE (speed table)
  • 6140 70th St NE (speed table)
  • 6226 70th St NE (speed table)
  • 7224 64th Ave NE (speed table)
  • 7419 64th Ave NE (speed table)
  • 7329 64th Ave NE (south leg raised crosswalk)
  • 64th Ave NE & 71st St NE (traffic circle)
  • 70th St NE & 59th Dr NE (traffic circle)
  • 70th St NE & 57th Dr NE (traffic circle)

Removal of 57th Dr NE & 70th St NE Traffic Circle

On November 17th, 2025, staff from the City's Engineering Services Department met on-site with local residents at the intersection of 57th Dr NE & 70th St NE to discuss the implementation of the traffic circle at 57th Dr NE & 70th St NE. Residents expressed their concerns and perceptions regarding the navigation of the traffic circle.

The City suspended construction of the traffic circle located at that intersection on November 24th, 2025. The traffic circle was removed the following week by City forces

Removal of 64th Ave NE & 73rd Pl NE Raised Crosswalk

The Raised Crosswalk at 64th Ave NE & 73rd Pl NE was included in the project to provide increased safety for pedestrians accessing Grove Elementary School. It was not necessary to install in order to meet the recommended 400-600 foot spacing between traffic control devices that the NTS program prescribes.

The City received concerns regarding the increased difficulty in navigating the crosswalk, the difficulty in seeing the crosswalk as a driver, and concerns that the device did not meet ADA guidelines. The Raised Crosswalk had not completed construction to alleviate these concerns. However, as the Raised Crosswalk is not necessary, the City has determined that its removal is warranted and preferable.

December 16th, 2025 - Neighborhood Meeting

On December 16th, 2025, the City hosted a neighborhood meeting. The meeting was hosted at the Marysville Library located at 6120 Grove St. The City heard from over 30 attendees and collected feedback regarding the project and its implementation. The feedback was analyzed and will inform the next steps for this project and all future NTS projects.

February Survey

In order to provide feedback, residents were encouraged to fill-out the linked survey. A copy of the survey's weblink and a paper copy of the survey were mailed out to parcels most impacted by the project.

The survey results will inform whether the traffic circles at 64th Ave NE & 71st St NE and 70th St NE & 59th Dr NE should remain or be removed. The results will also inform whether the speed table on 55th Ave NE should be removed. Among these options, the City is evaluating feedback on all other aspects of the project.
