Garbage & recycling rates
Rate increase effective January 2026
Your garbage bill will cost more in 2026 due to a major increase in disposal costs. City crews collect garbage from homes and businesses in Marysville, taking the trash to the county transfer station in Arlington. Snohomish County raised tipping fees at its transfer stations by 42 percent starting Jan. 1, 2026, necessitating an increase to help cover costs charged to the city.
For residential garbage collection, the rate for the most commonly used cart size (36 gallons) will go from $32.76 to $38.99 every two months, a 19% increase. Similar increases apply to other sizes. You can save money if you are able to switch to a smaller cart, move to monthly instead of weekly collection, or qualify for reduced rates for low-income senior citizens or low-income people with disabilities.
Recycling and optional yard waste services are also increasing, largely due to an increase in our recycling services contract with Waste Management. The standard recycling rate, for example, will go from $29.03 to $30.69 every two months, an increase of 6%. Charges for bulky items pickup, temporary containers and commercial collection also are going up.
Garbage and recycling service is mandatory in the City of Marysville. Yard waste collection is optional for residents. Your garbage bill represents a fee for service. Solid waste collection, as with all city utilities, is a self-supporting program not funded by taxes.
